Not all great pressure cookers are made in the USA. We aren't saying there aren’t any good pressure cookers in this country, because there are plenty; but there are also remarkable pressure cookers that come from other countries. India, for example, has more than one brand that makes pressure cookers, that is huge in the worldwide cookware manufacturing industry. The top two Indian cookware brands for pressure cookers that you will find are Prestige and Hawkins.
Even though these companies are based in India, you can find their pressure cookers on Amazon and other sites that sell kitchenware or appliances.
The worst thing that can happen while you’re using a pressure cooker is food sticking to the bottom of the pot. It is especially annoying if you’re cooking rice; a lot of the food becomes wasted and burnt at the bottom and may leave an unpleasant taste in your dinner. Utilize this pressure cooker to avoid sticking and uneven cooking. The hard anodized aluminum of this cooker is a type of coating that is similar to typical non-stick coatings, like Teflon but is thicker. Anodized aluminum is safer too because of the harmful chemicals that flake off into your food when you scrape the inside of Teflon-coated cookware. Another positive is the overlapped lid on top. The pressure is better contained and is less likely to come open while cooking. However, for safety reasons, if the pressure gets too high, it will loosen and automatically release pressure to prevent bursting. Pressure cookers can be dangerous if you are not using them correctly or if no safety precautions were taken during the design and manufacturing of the cooker.
This is the ideal pressure cooker for cooking Indian food. It works well for Indian cuisine because of the “Handi” shape of the pressure cooker and the stainless steel base, which cooks food evenly. Prestige makes high-quality pressure cookers; any of them are sure to last you a long time and won’t scratch or get worn easily. The Deluxe Duo Plus has an added bonus of looking great on your table when serving food, as well as being completely functional for cooking on the stove.
The Prestige Alpha is heavy duty. It’s especially hefty if you buy the 6.5-liter size and fill it with food. Be careful handling the pressure cooker when it’s full; use both of the side handles, which are comfortable to grip and very securely fastened to the side of the pressure cooker.
Because of the sheer size of the Alpha Pressure Cooker, you have the option to buy up to three metal food separators to put inside of it. Separators are nice since you can use them for cooking a couple of different foods at once in the pressure cooker; you aren’t limited to cooking one item at a time and then switching, which would be a hassle.
The Hawkins Class Pressure Cooker is the most commonly bought pressure cooker by Hawkins. It’s been their staple product for a long time. It’s extremely reliable and safe because of the pressure regulating system and high-grade aluminum. It works well on almost any type of stove; although, the Hawkins company website recommends that you should use it on a gas stove for the best results.
Some companies that make pressure cookers, outside of India, use materials that are low-quality and not resistant to drastic temperature changes and regular wear and tear. It seems to be that when one of these Indian-based kitchenware companies make pressure cookers, like Prestige or Hawkins, they do a better job at making a pressure cooker that lasts a very long time with little to no issues. There may not be an exact reason for this, but our guess would be that they wanted to build the best pressure cooker because most Indian dishes can be made in one.
In 2019, if you are going to buy an Indian pressure cooker, buy from either Prestige or Hawkins. There are a few other small Indian companies that make pressure cookers as well, but they just don’t compete with the products by Prestige and Hawkins.
